John Maxwell wrote 92 leadership books and built a ministry that reached four million people in six years.

John C. Maxwell spent 25 years as a pastor, then left after his publisher told him business people were buying his leadership books. He spent the next seven or eight years saying almost nothing about his faith while he earned the respect of that world. The ministry he and his brother Larry started in 1996, EQUIP, now runs 191,000 small groups, and Maxwell says four million people have come to Christ through them in the last six years at a cost of about four dollars each. In this conversation with Justin Forman he makes the case that a number set for your own security ends your best years the day you reach it, and that the same number set for other people starts something instead.
