Episode Notes

The young people the church wants most will never walk through its doors. So one ministry put the gospel in their feed instead.

Sean Dunn is the president of Groundwire, a ministry that reaches Gen Z and millennials on their phones and counts every result.

Sean spent years preaching to stadiums. Then he read that there were 33 million teenagers in America and realized he had been speaking to people who already agreed with him. Groundwire’s answer is to interrupt instead of invite: a short video lands in a young person’s feed at a low moment, shows them how they feel, and offers a real conversation with a coach who is ready 24/7. The sites carry the message in the address, like jesuscares.com and whenlifehurts.com.

Sean talks with Justin Forman about why “come to church” stopped working, the day a financial planner told him his numbers were too good to believe, the outside audit that followed, and why the more Groundwire spends, the cheaper each profession of faith gets. All numbers in this episode are Groundwire’s own.
