The Problem Solver Pledge

Today, I choose to be a Problem Solver.

The problems of the world can feel overwhelming. We live in a culture with no shortage of critics, commentary, and 24-hour drive-by cycles around what is broken. But we believe God calls His people to more than simply observe the problems around us. He calls us to step into broken places with faith, wisdom, generosity, and action.

Four commitments

  1. I will learn about a problem

I will pay attention to the brokenness around me and around the world. I will seek to understand a problem deeply, to name what is actually broken, understand why it persists, and refuse to simply react, criticize, or look away.

  2. I will give strategically

I will move from awareness to action by building an intentional plan for my generosity, just as I would for my investing. I will seek to give more than 10% of my annual income and put all that God has entrusted to me, my time, talent, treasure, experience, influence, and relationships, to work against the problems I feel called to solve.

  3. I will bring family or friends with me

Big problems require movements, not individuals. I will share what I am learning, invite other family members or friends into the problems I care about, and look for opportunities to give, build, and solve together.

  4. I will be a part of the community

As a part of the community, I commit to following the progress, asking hard questions, measuring what is working, and giving with both an open heart and a thoughtful mind. I will care about more than dollars given or activity created. I want to know whether the problem itself is getting smaller. I will encourage the team to look for solutions that are solving problems better, faster, and more efficiently and help the best of them go further.
