378 million face structural hunger.
673 million people worldwide are undernourished — that's 8.2% of the global population. But hunger isn't one problem.
295 million people face acute hunger driven by war, drought, and economic collapse. Those crises demand an immediate humanitarian response.
Another 378 million people face structural hunger rooted in low agricultural productivity, broken supply chains, and limited purchasing power. Those are market failures, and markets can solve them.
Nowhere is that paradox more visible than in Sub-Saharan Africa.

173 million people, roughly 13% of the region’s population, are undernourished. Yet Africa holds 60% of the world’s remaining untapped arable land while importing $50 billion of food every year.
Africa doesn’t lack the resources to feed itself. The challenge is building the markets that allow those resources to flourish.
That’s why our focus is clear. Humanitarian aid will always have a place triaging disasters. But where there are systemic issues, there needs to be market-based, systemic solutions. We back Africa’s entrepreneurs, investors, and local leaders who are building stronger agricultural markets.
